Matt Bailie

Entertainer, Matt Bailie

Some may say he is cocky for a 24-year-old kid. Some say he’s had everything handed to him: good looks, natural talent, and an instant smile.  Nevertheless, some know the real Matt Bailie. They know the kid whose entertainer father, David, died when the plane he was piloting crashed, leaving his young wife Catherine to raise Matt on her own.

Born on June 29, 1987 and since he took his first steps, Matt Bailie he has been walking in his father’s footsteps.  It hasn’t mattered that Matt hardly knew his dad; performing is in his DNA.  “I didn’t get the chance to know my dad, but I feel him there with me when I’m on stage”, Matt expresses.  “He’s there pushing me on ... telling me to give the fans all I have...So I do.”

As a young man, Bailie’s mother Catherine recognized his natural ability to entertain and encouraged him to develop his stage awareness.  Casting directors agreed that this young man was special. At the young age of twelve, Matt Bailie began his acting career in local theater appearing in productions of Guys and Dolls, West Side Story,  and Phantom of the Opera. He then moved on to film, appearing in episodes of the WB TV series, Safe Harbor, and the Spanish Moss Production movie, Surfacing.  Acting rounded out Matt’s experience, but he knew music was his true destiny Matt Bailie playing guitar as a child

Matt Bailie did not wait for someone to discover his talent.  He pushed his way into every opportunity available. At the age of fifteen, he was the youngest finalist to make it to the state finals in the Colgate Country Showdown, representing his hometown, Jacksonville, Florida.  "The boy makes me think of Garth Brooks when he performs," said one of the judges at the Showdown.  By the time Matt was eighteen, he was touring with his own band, a group out of Jacksonville. They opened for artists such as Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, .38 Special, among others. However, that was not enough for the ambitious eighteen-year old.  Matt Bailie had to be in the hub of the country genre.  He made the decision to leave his home and move to Nashville... on his own... by himself... yes, at age 18.

He attended Nashville’s SAE Institute of Technology where he studying sound audio engineering, increasing his knowledge of the technical side recording business.  It didn’t take long for Matt’s talent to attract industry approval.  Already an accomplished songwriter, Bailie sought the counsel of ASCAP’s then VP of Artist Relations, John Briggs.  Briggs, calling him a strong songwriter, said of Matt, “He’s determined to make a place for himself in this business.”

Bailie gained fan recognition with his first video, Man Behind These Eyes, (2011) which paid homage to his father. It is a song he co-wrote with fellow Floridian, and member of the group, .38 Special, Donnie Van Zandt. The video airs on TCN (The Country Network) GACTV.com (Great American Country) and You Tube.  Bailie will release a video in support of his current single, Everyday You in mid-November. Both songs are from his self-titled CD, “Matt Bailie” (released December 2010), available online at iTunes and all online outlets.

Journalist, John Shelton Ivany, in his column, "Top 21" named Matt Bailie’s CD project, "Album of the Week" saying of Bailie's CD, He is able to capture character and play it out in song. This is just the beginning for Matt Bailie. His charming persona is going to get him a lot of fans, and he's keeping with a reliably tasteful style of country music in the background - just a touch of the blues goes a long way. A review in Country Entertainment USA  gave M att Bailie “5” out of “5” Stars stating, This project is country to the core and reminiscent of an early Garth Brooks. I am looking forward to watching Matt Bailie’s career grow!
